Oh my gosh! You just did a whole podcast on my comment from last week! Haha it feels so validating to have it echoed and expounded by you. Out of all the ex-mormon podcast, you probably encapsulate my attitude the closest.
I’m actually writing a blog post about my experience coming out as gay in the church, as well as what I wish Mormonism was all about, and could be all about. The idea centers on the complex fall of Adam and Eve. It is the most fascinating belief of the church, that God commanded Adam and Eve NOT to eat the fruit, but the whole plan needed them TO eat the fruit. Sometimes leaving the church feels like the fall to me, leaving all the safety and comforts of the church, the good ship zion, behind into a world where I need to provide for myself…. but in doing so actually allows me space to grow, learn and become more than I ever could in the church. I too feel like Adam when he says, “Because of my transgression my eyes are opened, and in this life I shall have joy”…. and I’m an atheist!
